DENTAL HEALTH WEEK 2023
Looking for dental health week resources and activities for toddlers, preschoolers and primary school children? Or do you need an experienced dentist, speaker and entertainer to feature in the media? You’ve come to the right place.
Dental Health Week 2023 takes place from Monday August 7th to Sunday August 13th. Making Term 3 the perfect time to include oral health education in your early learning centre or primary school.
The Australian Dental Association’s Annual Health Promotion campaign focuses this year on ways to maintain healthy mouths to retain our teeth for life.
While brushing, flossing and limiting our sugar intake may seem like simple things we can do everyday, sadly, research shows that this is not always the case. Recent data shows some pretty sobering statistics:
Did you know

1 in 3
Children experience tooth decay before they reach school age.

Almost half
Of all children haven’t visited the dentist before age 5.

1 in 4
Children under the age of 14 develop tooth decay in an adult tooth.

Bringing Dental Health Week Activities to your centre

Introducing ‘Dr Bethany’s Tooth Tales”, enjoyable and educational incursions. I’m all about encouraging dental hygiene to be fun, rather than a chore. Plus our activities and resources are aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework and Victorian Curriculum.
The 45-minute incursion is designed to teach preschoolers and primary school-aged children about oral health, hygiene, and healthy eating. The program focuses on empowering children, early childhood educators, teachers, and parents to improve the oral health of both their children and themselves through practical tips, songs, dancing, and games.
With my unique superpowers of being an experienced and award-winning children’s entertainer, as well as a qualified dentist and VIT registered teacher, my incursions are an enjoyable and educational way to share the dental health week message throughout the term.
Dr Bethany’s Tooth Tales is an interactive experience where children will join in on nearly every activity. They’ll have a chance to practice their brushing and flossing skills with the puppets and be given the opportunity to ask questions. By asking questions, it helps to develop their interest and strengthens their recently learned knowledge and skills.
Music is used in the program to deliver oral health messages. Because when children are having fun, their brains are more open to learning. Music is one of few activities that allows us to use both the logical and creative sides of our brain simultaneously, encouraging the building of brain connections and subsequently increasing the speed at which we can think. Which all works together to have a positive impact on early childhood development.
At the end of the presentation each child will get their very own take home pack of goodies, with a brushing chart and lots of great info to share with their parents too. And your centre or preschool gets a poster to continue education as well.

Meet Dr Bethany.
Dentist. Entertainer. Teacher.
On a mission to make an impact locally, nationally and globally to protect those precious happy smiles of children everywhere.
Dr Bethany Fisher was born to be a children’s presenter and now she’s combining her skills as a qualified dentist and passion for working with children to reduce the alarming rates of decay in young Australians, one toe-tapping song at a time.
Shocked by the number of teeth she was extracting in children as young as four, the owner and founder of Dr. Bethany’s Tooth Tales developed a fun and interactive musical oral health program that is becoming the gold standard for dental education in preschools across Australia.
The energetic entertainer uses singing and dancing to teach children about the importance of regular dental check-ups, good nutrition and optimal oral hygiene. It’s clear she’s onto a winning formula as the winner of Best Kids Live Show at the What’s On 4 Kids Awards.
“When children are having fun, their brains are more open to learning because music is one of the few activities that engages the logical and creative sides of our brain at the same time,” says Dr Fisher.
Dr Fisher’s Toothtales have gone gangbusters during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when regular visits to the dentist have been interrupted, and the presenter has even decided to go back to school herself to study teaching to become the best in her game.

Dental Health Week Media
Dr Bethany Fisher is available throughout Dental Health Week for print, radio and television media opportunities. Bethany’s primary focus is on education and providing practical tips and tricks for parents around maintaining oral health, as well as oral health statistics in children and common causes of dental disease.
